For only the fifth time in the history of Kern Valley High School, the varsity Broncs have won a league title in football.
Combine that with the jayvee squad also winning the league championship this season for the fourth straight time and one could tell it’s has been quite the season for Kern Valley Broncs football.

In the 1995 season, Kern Valley’s squad consisted of Nick Perry, Tim Hurley, Terry Hurley, Josh Thompson, Steve Freeland, Ben Cox, C.J. Walden, John Doser, Danny Gleason, Scott Obert, Chris Witten, James Hunt, Josh Kent, James Smoot, Nick Young, Jason Montgomery, James Paul, Danny Gates, Paddy Young, Adam Dawson, Adam Eyre, Robert Gomes, Joe McIrvin, James Black, Jeremiah Holguin, Jordan Barnes, Chris Barton, Seth Grove, Chad Rich and Mike McLaughlin. The head coach was Jimmy Thompson.
Kern Valley’s schedule in 1995 was McFarland, Cantwell, Village Christian, Moorpark and Mammoth in the non-league, while the High Desert League opponents for the Broncs consisted of Rosamond, Bishop, Paraclete, Mojave and Desert.
For the varsity Broncs this season, they have had three comeback wins in overtime.
This resulted in them being dubbed the “Cardiac Comeback Kids.”
It started against Boron, continued the following week against Piedmont and then week three of the High Desert League against Bishop.
Kern Valley started the season against McFarland winning 52-0, the following week they took care of Vasquez 27-13. Then came consecutive overtime wins over Boron and Piedmont.
The only loss of the year came at the hands of Whittier Christian 7-33 to end the non-league schedule.
They opened the High Desert League with a 55-14 win over Cal City, they beat Desert 33-6, then it was the cardiac comeback against Bishop followed by beating Rosamond 28-0.
The Broncs finished the regular season and wrapped up the title with a 50-6 win over Frazier Mountain.
The junior varsity to their own credit have done quite well themselves in recent years.
The Kern Valley Broncs squad has a consecutive league winning streak that has now reached 20 games in securing their fourth straight High Desert League title.
The last time they were beaten in the HDL came from the Desert Scorpions 18-6 on Nov. 4, 2005.
They came back the next week to knock off Rosamond to start their new consecutive win streak.
Over the past five seasons, Kern Valley has a record of 43-6-1 (.870)
In 2005 they went 6-4, in 2006 they 9-1, in 2007 they had a record 9-0-1, in 2008 they went 10-0 and this season they were 9-1.

The names were taken from the team picture printed in the Kern Valley Sun (Sept. 6, 1995).
Larry McCurtain's name was not among those pictured. "
