Kern Valley sweeps Bishop 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22

The trip to Bishop on Oct. 13 paid off nicely for the lady Broncs as they came home a winner in straight sets.

Kern Valley opened the match with a convincing 25-21 win to get the ball rolling.

They played even better in the second game as they grabbed the early match lead 2-0 with a 25-15 victory.

Needing just one game out of the final three, the lady Broncs had put themselves in prime position to win the match.

The third game proved to be a battle as the lady Broncos of Bishop continued to fight.

In the end Kern Valley came out on top 25-22 to take the game and the match.

Hollie Largent led the way as she delivered six kills to lead the squad. She added three assists and recorded two service aces.

Shayne Villa, Sierra Ure and Jaime Duran each had four kills, while Corey Andreas collected two kills. Kelsi Robinson and Kylie Onstott each had one kill in the match.

Robinson was credited with five assists, while Duran and Onstott each had three assists.

Duran served up six aces to lead the lady Broncs in that department. Villa added three aces, while Robinson and Morgan Eirich had two service aces. Onstott was credited with one serving ace.

Head coach Tom Evans said, “As it seems the norm for this group lately is “we came to play”. Our work ethic thus far has not been our weakness. Some little things like serving, passing, hitting and setting at times have been.”

He went on to say, “This gives us something to do during practice and these young ladies are working diligently on their skills. The victory in Bishop was enormous as far as confidence goes.”

Two days later playing at home against Rosamond, the lady Broncs jumped out to an early lead over the lady Roadrunners as they took the first two games of the match 25-21 and 25-19.

The suffered a let down in game three and lost 12-25 before losing in game four 25-22 to set up the fifth and deciding game of the match.

Rosamond would come all the way back as they collected the match victory with a 17-15 win in the fifth game ending Kern Valley’s hopes of getting another league win.

Villa had four kills and one block. Robinson recorded three kills, while Corinn Bedard and Onstott each had two kills.

Duran finished with five serving aces, while Onstott had four, Robinson recorded three aces, while Villa had two service aces.

On Oct. 20, Kern Valley traveled to compete against Frazier Mountain. The lady Falcons made short work of Kern Valley as they took the match in three games. They won game one 25-13, game two 25-21 and finished by winning game three 26-24.

Onstott had five kills to lead Kern Valley. Villa was credited with four kills, while Robinson, Ure and Largent each had two kills. Onstott collected two blocks, while Largent and Villa each had one block.

Robinson delivered four service aces to lead the lady Broncs. Duran had two aces, while Largent finished with one ace.

Two days later it was back on the road once again as they traveled to Cal City.

This would prove to be another hard fought match that had to go five games.

The lady Broncs came up on the short end in the marathon battle. They won game one 25-16, lost the second game 17-25 and dropped game three 23-25.

They rallied for the 25-13 win in game four to force a game five. That was won by Cal City 9-15.

Duran had six kills, while Bedard had three kills. Onstott had two kills , while Ure had one.

Onstott was credited with the lone block for the lady Broncs, while Duran served up seven aces. Onstott and Villa each recorded five aces. Robinson had two and Andreas had one ace.
