Bishop knocked off Frazier Mountain this past week, giving the Broncs a piece of the league championship pie and control of their own fate.

A win on Thursday and the first outright league championship in 14 years comes home with the Broncs.

The game against Rosamond saw Kern Valley amass 165 yards on 16 penalties and poor execution on offense.

Early on, every time the Broncs got close to the end zone, a penalty would stall the drive. Or on the other hand, a penalty kept Rosamond’s offense on the field.

The Broncs scored a touchdown in the second quarter to take the lead 7-0, and then added a score in the third to increase the margin to 14-0.

Two fourth quarter touchdowns sealed the deal and the Broncs collected the win and their share of the title.

Warren Pappas began the scoring as he rushed for a two yard score. Jordan Lawson booted the extra-point for the 7-0 lead.

Kyler Emery hooked up with Lawson on a five yard scoring toss to make the score 14-0.

Lawson scored his second touchdown of the night in the fourth and Mark Eisenhauer capped the points total with a touchdown run of six yards.

Kern Valley managed to collect 428 yards of offense with 295 coming on the ground and Emery throwing for 133 yards.

Eisenhauer led the ground game as he rushed for 109 yards on 20 carries.

Pappas picked up 87 yards on 11 rushes, while Lawson had 42 yards on two carries.

Emery went for 29 yards on six rushes, while Travis Gibson gained 15 yards with three carries. Dakota Claude’ rounded out the ground game as he rushed for 13 yards on two carries.

Emery completed 10-of 13 passes and one interception for the 133 yards. Lawson hauled in five catches for 73 yards, while Pappas had three grabs for 30 yards. Robbie Fisher caught two passes for 30 yards.

The Kern Valley defense allowed Rosamond just 98 total yards. they gave up 64 rushing and 34 passing.

Pappas led the defense with 10 tackles. Dylan Maxwell, Nick Pappas each had six tackles, while Eisenhauer, Ronnie Grannan, Josh Stuart and Lawson had five tackles each. Fisher, Eli Kamisher, Aaron LaFarga and Colton Hurley were credited with three tackles apiece.

Head Coach Ben Goffinet said, “This week we became only the fifth varsity football team in Kern Valley history to win a HDL championship. I thought that we played well in most facets of the game, but we need to cut down on penalties. I can’t say enough about how proud I am to coach this group of young men. I urge everyone to come out to a game to see them play, It’s well worth the trip.”

With this game in the books, the Broncs will now look forward to Thursday’s game with Frazier Mountain on the Falcons home field.

This has been a tough place for the Broncs to get a win. They are currently 0-4 at Frazier Mountain.

This will mark the 11th time the two teams have met. The series with the Falcons is all tied up as each team has five wins.

Kern Valley is also on a two-game win streak against the Falcons as they won last season 10-7 and 37-13 the year before. Both games were played on Kern Valley’s field.

Goffinet is 3-1 when his team plays Frazier Mountain.

Whichever way the winds blow on Thursday, Kern  Valley’s season has been one heck of a ride. The game on Thursday will start at 7 p.m.
