California receives funds to help low-income with energy costs
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the release of $50,257,301 to the state of California to help low income citizens with their heating bills during October, November and December of this year. These funds represent grants to states, tribes and territories under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Home invasion robbery reported in Weldon
In the early hours of Nov. 4, Kern Valley Sheriff’s deputies responded to 5277 Hooper Road in Weldon regarding a home invasion robbery. Stanley Harrington reported approximately five male suspects forced entry into his residence at gun point. He stated they entered his residence and announced themselves as the Sheriff’s Office by saying. “This is the Kern Valley Sheriff Department! This is a raid!”

George Dale, 81, of Caliente, was killed Friday, Nov. 20, while driving his 1991 Mercury Sable southbound on Auxiliary Dam Campground Rd., approaching Hwy. 178 at a slow speed. Dale failed to see Casey Hubbard, 21, of Lake Isabella, driving westbound on Hwy. 178 at 45-55 miles per hour and he entered the intersection directly in the path of Hubbard’s 2001 Kia Sephia, the California Highway Patrol reported. Hubbard applied his brakes to avoid a collision but was unable to stop. The front of Hubbard’s Kia then struck the left side of the Mercury. Dale was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kern Medical Center. Hubbard and passenger Kristie Dill, 21, of Lake Isabella were not transported to the hospital. All parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Search for narcotics nets two for narcotic sales
On Nov. 8, deputies from the Kern Valley Substation responded to 2512 Pinon Street in Lake Isabella to conduct a probation search for narcotics. During the search of the residence, James Henry, 58, was found to be in possession of approximately one ounce of methamphetamine for sale. A search warrant was also executed for the search of the residence and vehicles at the scene. After the execution of the search warrant, Gary Victory, 43, was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine for sale. Methampehtamine, paraphernalia, and $2,170 in US currency was seized. Both subjects were booked into the Central Receiving Facility on various narcotics related charges.
