KV cheer squads bring home the hardware

On Nov. 21, the Kern Valley Broncs youth cheerleaders participated in the Antelope Valley Youth Football League’s (AVYFL) annual Cheerleading Competition.

The final round of the competition kicked off in Boron at 8 a.m. with lots of spirited chanting and cheers from all regions in the AVYFL.

The Kern Valley youth football cheerleading squads pose together after their competition held this past Saturday. Kern Valley collected three trophies, a second and two third place and the coveted Spirit Award. The competition was a result of all the year’s practice and putting what they learned into routines that would wow the judges.

The Kern Valley crowd was in full force to support the teams on the day.

The competition began with the freshman teams.

Kern Valley’s girls got the crowd going with their cheers, chants and dance routine. The freshman squad consisted of Tonya Anderson, Amy Berthold, Harlee Hawk, Kassidy Magby and Victoria Zuniga. They were coached by Monica Atkinson and T’Sara Amos.

Next on the mat were the sophomore teams. Kern Valley showed their moves with a well choreographed dance routine, crowd pumping cheers and perfectly timed stunts to bring home a third place trophy.

Taylor Alldredge, Samantha Alvarez, Tayah Bushling, Sarah Clemmons, Kory Clifton, Chasity Harris, Aspire Horn, Ashley McIrvin, Felicity Montez, Kaylee Mullen, Haley Sage, Kiylin Spagholini, Ashly Trautman, Erika Yeargan and Machenzie Weghorst made up the sophomore squad and were coached by Jenifer Plante and Skyler Hawk.

The juniors were up next with Kern Valley rocking the house with their powerful stunts, jumps and tumbling sequence. The junior squad would collect the third place trophy for their efforts.

The juniors had Jessica Alvarez, Savannah Bonham, Sharri Cazares, Harleigh Harbuck, Sammantha Hurley, Bailey Johnson, Alexis LaFarga, Gracie Overholt, Hannah Reed and Nicole Wendland and were coached by Bobbi Jo Pearson.

Next on the floor were the seniors. The Kern Valley team wowed the crowd with their innovative and high-flying stunts. Their routine was good enough to bring home a second place trophy.

The seniors consisted of Hattie Fletcher, Cassi Hattem, Jimi Hurley, BreeAnn Long, Sammantha Valdez and Marissa Witten and were coached by Jennifer Buel.

Rounding out the day’s events were the Rookies team performances.

Kern Valley’s squad dressed in Broncs ears and tails broke it down with a Ho-Down Stomp and spirited cheers and chants.

The Rookies team was made up of Lizzie Atkinson, Savannah Bohn, Haley Zuniga, Kameryn Harris, Kaila Gholson, Hailee Swanson, Michala McIrvin, Desiree DuPree, Kayla Eubanks-Sweiringa and Madelyn Kuhar. They were coached by Shawna Fleming and Meagan Sandoval.

Throughout the day the cheerleading squads called cheers and chants to get the crowd yelling and showing spirit.

The Kern Valley cheerleaders not only kept the spirit with their own crowd, but showed support for the other regions.

This spirited group from Kern Valley would earn the coveted Spirit Award.
