Light up a Life Dec. 8 in Kernville
Light up a Life is Hoffmann Hospice’s annual remembrance ceremony, where we gather to remember and honor loved ones with the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree. Guests may place a symbolic light on the tree in memory of a friend or a loved one who has passed away. For those who wish to honor someone still living, there are lights for them, too.

Wildland fire season officially ends
The U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Tule River Reservation Fire Department (TIA) and Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) officially declared the end of the 2009 wildland fire season on Saturday, November 21st.

George Dale, 81, of Caliente, was killed Friday, Nov. 20, while driving his 1991 Mercury Sable southbound on Auxiliary Dam Campground Rd., approaching Hwy. 178 at a slow speed. Dale failed to see Casey Hubbard, 21, of Lake Isabella, driving westbound on Hwy. 178 at 45-55 miles per hour and he entered the intersection directly in the path of Hubbard’s 2001 Kia Sephia, the California Highway Patrol reported. Hubbard applied his brakes to avoid a collision but was unable to stop. The front of Hubbard’s Kia then struck the left side of the Mercury. Dale was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kern Medical Center. Hubbard and passenger Kristie Dill, 21, of Lake Isabella were not transported to the hospital. All parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Search for narcotics nets two for narcotic sales
On Nov. 8, deputies from the Kern Valley Substation responded to 2512 Pinon Street in Lake Isabella to conduct a probation search for narcotics. During the search of the residence, James Henry, 58, was found to be in possession of approximately one ounce of methamphetamine for sale. A search warrant was also executed for the search of the residence and vehicles at the scene. After the execution of the search warrant, Gary Victory, 43, was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine for sale. Methampehtamine, paraphernalia, and $2,170 in US currency was seized. Both subjects were booked into the Central Receiving Facility on various narcotics related charges.

CAL-MMET unit conducts pro-active narcotic enforcement in Kern Valley
Kern County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Dorkin along with additional members of the California Multi-jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (CAL-MMET) conducted several enforcement investigations in Kern Valley area on Dec. 3. The investigations originated from citizen information and parole/probation terms. Deputy Dorkin was the case agent who developed and coordinated the searches and subsequent arrests.

Sheriff's helicopter assists in arrest near Lake Isabella
On Nov. 30, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Deputy Sheriff conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for one headlamp on Elizabeth Norris just south of Hwy 178. The vehicle pulled over and came to a stop. As the vehicle stopped two subjects climbed out of the vehicle and ran north from the vehicle. The Deputy stayed with the vehicle and detained the two other occupants.

After a nationwide search, the Superior Court of California, County of Kern, has announced the appointment of David Kuge as Chief Probation Officer for the County of Kern effective Dec.18.
