American Red Cross First Aid Class
Dean Ott from the KRV Community Emergency Response Team will be teaching the American Red Cross First Aid class on Jan. 19 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Kern River Valley Youth Center located at 3640 Golden Spur in Lake Isabella. This class is open to the public. The cost of the class is $20 per person. Please contact Tom Klein to sign up for the class, at (760) 379-2797.
Parenting classes to start Jan. 28
Parenting classes begin on Thursday, Jan. 28. Classes will be two hours in length, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and run weekly for 10 weeks ending on March 25. All classes will be held at the KRV Family Resource Center in Lake Isabella.
Peanut poisoning victims still waiting for food safety assurances
A year ago, many of us were throwing out cookies, ice cream, crackers, and jars of peanut butter because of a salmonella outbreak linked to peanut products. Nine people died from the bacterial infection, and more than 700 got sick, including 55 cases in California. Promises were made for quick action to require regular food plant inspections and faster product recalls, but there are no new laws on the books yet.
