Kern Valley opens league with convincing win

On Jan. 12, the Kern Valley jayvee girls opened their league play by defeating Cal City 57-16.

Dorothy Thoman finished the game with eight rebounds, eight points, four steals, five assists and one block. Amber Snyder had four rebounds, one assist and two points, and Kayla Harris had one rebound, four steals, one assist and five points.

Ashley Hampton had nine rebounds, two steals and seven points, Savannah Duvall had three rebounds, three steals and one assist, Tori Barnum controlled the boards and finished the game with 17 rebounds. She also had two steals, three assists and scored five points. And Leah Bishop had one steal and two assists, Dolly Anzaldo had one rebound, one steal and one point.

Head coach Don Hazard said, “We started the game pressing and were able to capitalize on their turnovers.”

Three days later at home the Lady Broncs played Desert. At half time the Lady Broncs (2-0 HDL) were losing 18-15 but the girls came out strong the second half and won the game 49-37.

Anzaldo had five rebounds, four steals, one assist and seven points, Bishop had one rebound, Barnum had nine rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks and scored two points, and Thoman had five rebounds, one steal, one assist and two points.

Snyder had two rebounds and Harris once again played a great game and had seven rebounds, eight steals, one assist, two blocks and scored big time for her team with 12 points. Hampton had seven rebounds, one steal, three blocks and two points, and Duvall had one rebound and one assist.
