The paramedics (not EMTs they drive the ambulance) already evaluate and stabilize people, and then take them where ever it is appropriate. Bakersfield is too busy to waste its time evaluating people only to find out they could have been taken care of here. The system already works, leave it alone. Or move to a city if you don't like small town medical options. "

" Here's my 2 cents! There are some kinks to be worked out, but Air ambulance is not a bad idea. The Hospital can not accomodate many life-threatening emergencies, so people are flown out to Bako anyways. Give the critical hour of diagnosis to Bako, instead of KVHD to figure out they can't do anything. The "Hospital" could act as an urgent care facility, and EMTS can take care of stabilization in emergencies. Air ambulance is covered by insurances under certain circumstances. KVHD's lack of ability, equipment, personnel, ect..is a covered circumstance. "

Myself, my husband and my daughter have all had to use the ER over the years and I can tell you I'd much rather go over there than bother with the canyon when I'm either sick, in pain or needing stitches. There's a lot of us retirees who would be happy to create a new service. Why keep paying for a hospital which doesn't work, and just pay to get the injured to a hospital which does.
It would be quicker to just put them aboard than wait to see if the locals can save you. Wings. "
