KV runs and jumps at opening track meet

The Kern Valley Broncs Track and Field team traveled to Ridgecrest to participate in the Burroughs Invitational, also participating in the invitational were Burroughs, Palmdale, Tehachapi, Hesperia, and Mojave.

This was the first time for the Kern Valley team to compete this season.

“This was a good start to our track season, and we can’t wait to get to the league dual meets,” said coach Brian Christianson.

In the boys Field Events in the Shot Put, Edward Rich threw 34’10 ½,” Mike Donnelly 33’ 3 ½” , Sayd Alvarez 32’11 ¼”, Eddie Nelson 31’3 ½”,Tyler Parker 30’1”, Louis Peralta 29’7”, Eli Kamisher 28’5 ½”, Clayton Huckaby 27” 1 ¾”, and Nathan Couch 24 5 ¼”. In the Discus event Alvarez threw 96’2 ¼”, Josh Stuart 92’1”, Donnelly 85’8”, Huckaby 75’7 ½”, Rich 66’5”, and Nelson 55’8”.

Unfortunately, the numbers were not quite high enough to place.

For the Broncs in the Long Jump were Josh Stuart at 17’11”, Rusty Muncy 17’4 ½”, Jake Hodge 15’5”, Matt Reilly 15’2”, Doug Peaslee 14’4 ¾”, Cory Stanfield 13’ 8”, Joey Pistocco 12’9 ½”.

Stuart placed fourth overall, Muncy placed sixth overall, and Reilly placed fourth for the junior varsity event. Stuart also competed in the Triple Jump with a leap of 36’ 9 ½” giving him a fifth place overall.

Muncy took first place in the High Jump with a leap of 5’6”.

“All the other jumpers could not clear 5’4” and on my first jump I did pretty well with a 5’6” jump,” said Muncy.

For the track events starting with the 110 Hurdles, Darren Rhym competed and his time was 20.91. He did not place in the top six.

In the 4x100 relay teaming up were Travis Gibson, Reilly, Donnelly, and Jose Lopez they placed fifth overall with a time of 50.28.

In the 1600 meter race, Josh Tyrell’s time was 6:17.60 and Tanner Cargile’s time was 5:58.88. Neither of them placed in the top six for varsity, but for the junior varsity Tecumseh Claude’ took first place with a time of 5:30.

In the 400 meter race Bret Sorrells came in at 65.02, Peaslee 68.56, Chris Connolly 68.94, Carlos Banuelos 70.60, Kevin Bishop 74.93, and Pistocco 75.38.

In the 100 meter the times were good. Julian Deems 10.56, Muncy 11.75, Tyler Parker 12.69, Bishop 14.31. This was Deems first time to compete in track, and he placed second in the junior varsity meet. “It was a lot of fun,” Deems said.

For the 800 meter Claude’ ran 2:28, Sorrells 3:02.81, Banuelos 3:03.98, and for the junior varsity race Claude placed second.

In the 300 Hurdles Muncy came across the line at 44.84, Darren Rhym 54.87, North Williams finished the race however the time was not recorded on the stats.

Muncy got fourth place overall. “This is my best event,” Muncy said.

For the 200 Jake Hodge finished at 27.69, Deems 27.47, Bishop 32.97 and in the 3200 Cargile came across the line at 12:07.87, and Tyrell 13:33.04. And in the second go around for the 4 x 400 relay Claude, Cargile, Tyrell, and Deems teamed up and finished at 4:33.09.
