Fourth of July weekend fireworks

The Forest Service invites everyone to another patriotic celebration at Lake Isabella this Independence Day weekend. In cooperation and through their special use permit with the Forest Service, the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce successfully organized the fireworks display occurring Saturday July 3.

Silver City Ghost Town plans Wild West Shows July 4th weekend 

 Twenty years ago this summer the J. Paul Corlew family purchased the historic Silver City Ghost Town in Bodfish from Dave and Arvilla Mills family. The Mills family purchased the site from “Wormie” Annie Sullivan and moved in most of the historic buildings in the late 1960s. Mills trucked in over 20 buildings to the site from throughout the Kern River Valley’s mining camps and early settlements. Many of the buildings were saved just days before being scheduled to be torn down.

Verizon cell town hearing slated for Aug. 17

There has been a continuance for the Verizon cell tower hearing originally scheduled for yesterday, July 13. The hearing is now scheduled for Aug. 17, on the P.M. agenda, according to Judy Hyatt, Field Representative for 1st District Supervisor Jon McQuiston. This decision was reached today, and an email has gone out to the adjacent property owners, Hyatt said.

SAL presented check in amount of $4,600 by Classic Car Show sponsors

With a large amount of community support, the 2nd Annual Lake Isabella Classic Car Show, sponsored by Buddy's Hot Rod Shop, proved to be a rousing success. With the help of merchant, private donors, show volunteers, and participants the event was able to raise $4,600 for the Kern Valley Sheriff's Activities League to benefit the kids of the Kern River Valley.
