Our view: Righting the Ship

Published on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 10:15 PM PDT

For many readers and web users, blogging has turned into a “narrow minded, selfish tirade no one wants to hear.” To right the ship, so to speak, the Sun is re-establishing the ground rules and guidelines for comments posted on the blogs.

•Be respectful of others, the writer and the subjects in the story.

• Be relevant.

• Comments need to be relevant to the story that is being discussed.

• Posters are responsible for the opinions they express and the accuracy of the information they provide.

• We urge comment writers to treat this as a public forum where manners actually matter.

• We encourage a civil, collegial, and non-insulting tone.

Types Of Comments That Will Not Accepted:

• Potentially libelous statements or damaging innuendo.

• Obscene, explicit, or racist language.

• Personal attacks, insults or threats.

• The use of another person's real name to disguise your identity.

• Comments unrelated to the story.

• Opinions, advice and all other information expressed in reader comments represent the individual's own views and not those of the Kern Valley Sun.

• Using more than one alias is strongly discouraged.

Comments are approved by an editor before appearing on the Web site. Editors review submitted comments periodically during the day. Offensive, off-topic, repetitious and/or redundant content will not be accepted.

In a nutshell, it's pretty basic. Just stay on topic, don't be rude or redundant.

Again, your thoughtful contribution to the online discussion is appreciated.

" It's about time. The posts here have become too rude and ignorant to pass for civil conversation. "

" KV Sun......Did you take a poll that shows no one wants to hear? Bob....The reason you see less posts is because they are being censored. No one has grown silent. "

" It is a pleasrue to see almost no posts anymore. All the junk that had nothing to do with the article or letter to editor it was posted under is there anymore. Nice!
The 74% Repblican valley has grown silent. One can only assume the effort to become educated rather than opinionated was too much for them.
    Again, Nice.
Thanks for letting folks express real opinions and or facts on the issues presented. "

" You forgot to add politically incorrect opinions will not be tolerated.
Your rules are brought about by your tacit approval and allowance of weeks of unchecked lies, vitriol, slander and character assassination of one person in particular, that you and your staff have no use for, and other hard working members of our community.
Closing the barn door to late is not going to change the poor opinion some have developed of the editors and some staff of the KVS.
KVS editors have allowed their political correctness and biases to be exposed for all to see. "
