Verizon cell town hearing slated for Aug. 17

There has been a continuance for the Verizon cell tower hearing originally scheduled for yesterday, July 13. The hearing is now scheduled for Aug. 17, on the P.M. agenda, according to Judy Hyatt, Field Representative for 1st District Supervisor Jon McQuiston. This decision was reached today, and an email has gone out to the adjacent property owners, Hyatt said.

Bull fire barrels through Riverkern

At 1:45 p.m., Monday, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Kern County Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire in the area of Burlando Road. The fire began in Bull Run Creek, about three miles north of Kernville.

Missing mountain bikers located

On 7-24-10 at approximately 1715 hours, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the California Highway Patrol that three subjects were reported missing on Cannell Trail located in the mountains north of Kernville. The subjects were identified as Thomas Hannemann age 42 from San Clemente, Calif., Brent Berkompas age 37 from San Clemente, Calif., and Tiffany Appleman age 29 from San Diego, Calif. The three subjects were mountain biking on Cannell Trail and were last seen on the trail possibly suffering from heat exhaustion.

Eleven rafters survive river ordeal

On Friday, July 23 at approximately 2:20 p.m., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for an overturned raft in the Kern River in the area of the Keyesville-North Launch Area. The report was that a raft was observed to have turned over in the river and the rafters had disappeared after at least one attempt to right the raft.
