Kenny Guinn, part time Kernville resident and former governor of Nevada died Thursday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. He was 73.

Longtime friend George Randall of Kernville said he had spoken with Guinn the previous night. "He said the heat was bothering him," said Randall. "He was climbing the ladder to get to the roof when something happened. He never made it to the roof. The world lost a great man - a superman."

The coroner’s office completed its medical examination Friday. An official cause of death is still pending, but a final determination might not be known for several weeks. A heart attack is suspected, said a family member.

A funeral Mass has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
