Roy Abshire

Roy Abshire was born on Oct. 25, 1923 in Galveston, Texas and passed away at the age of 86 at his granddaughter’s home in Bakersfield, Calif. Roy was a WWII veteran and following the war became a carpenter specializing in hardwood floors for over 69 years.

Roy and his wife Louise moved to the Kern River Valley in 1972, making the valley their home, and where Roy became well known in the valley for his hardwood floors. He loved the valley and all it had to offer. He loved hunting, fishing and trapping here in the valley.

Roy joins his wife of 47 years, Louise who passed away in 1999. He is survived by his five children, Roy Jr., Donnie, Eddie, Terry and Sandy Abshire. He has 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.


Roy was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday Aug. 4, 2010 at McNally’s Fairview Lodge at 11:00 am.
