Labor Day schedules for CALM and Kern County Museum

The California Living Museum (CALM), 10500 Alfred Harrell Highway (between Lake Ming and Hart Park) will be open, but the Kern County Museum, 3801 Chester Avenue in Bakersfield, will be closed for the Sept. 6 Labor Day holiday.

CALM will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and offers $1 off the price of every child’s (ages 3-12) admission on Sept. 6.  Monday’s are also Senior Discovery Days and every visitor, age 60 and older, on Labor Day will receive a 50 percent discount off the  price of admission. Whether it is the curiosity of observing native animals, seeing and learning about them up close and personal from knowledgeable docents or enjoying beautifully landscaped native plants, CALM has everything to provide a perfect outing. The museum provides visitors with a glimpse back in history, showcasing approximately 100,000 artifacts and 56 exhibit buildings depicting lifestyles from Kern County’s earliest civilized beginnings. It features an interactive exhibit profiling the history of oil, Black Gold: The Oil Experience. The museum’s main gallery reflects past and present historic themes through local, regional and national exhibit displays.
