Wallace Larsen Hyer passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aug. 21, 2010 following a battle with congestive heart failure and lung disease.

Wallace Larsen Hyer was born Aug. 9, 1928 in Hyrum, Utah to Clester Wallace Hyer and Ercille Marie Larsen. Wally was raised in Cache Valley, Utah where he and his father farmed. He served as a missionary in Sweden for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two and one-half years. Wally also served in the armed forces in Germany for two and one-half years. He remained a great patriot with a great love for his country throughout his life. Wally was an excellent marksman, especially with a sling shot.

Upon his return from Germany he met and married Marilyn Jane Hinman, a Canadian school teacher from Alberta. They were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple on March 3, 1954. Wally and Marilyn are the parents of seven children, Drew and De Lane Hyer, Steve and Ronna Christensen, Lance and Brittany Hyer, Ross Hyer (deceased), Shaun Hyer (twin), Robert and Sheila (twin) Pratt and Paul and Mitzi Hyer. They have 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Wally is survived by one sister Nedra Muir of St. George, Utah and three brothers, Ruel Hyer of Moses Lake, Wash., Paul Hyer of Herriman, Utah and David Hyer of Saratoga Springs, Utah.

Wallace was a Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) and sold insurance in Santa Rosa, Calif. for 40 years. Wally’s hobbies were building, flying small aircraft, scuba diving, and motorcycle riding. He spent many years as an adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America and earned his Wood Badge designation. He loved to take the scouts on high Sierra week-long hikes. Over the years Wally built seven beautiful homes for his family and two medical clinic buildings, Mesa Chiropractic for his son Dr. Paul Hyer and Sienna Medical Center for Dr. Robert Gross and Dr. Holly Spohn-Gross.

Wally and Marilyn enjoyed serving their church and their fellow men. They served several missions together during their retirement which took them to Pennsylvania, England and Arkansas. They made Lake Isabella their home in September 2001 following their son Dr. Paul Hyer’s family and their five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday Aug. 25, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6400 Park Ave. in Mountain Mesa across from the hospital. The viewing is at 9:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Kern River Valley Cemetery at 12:00 p.m.
