KVHS reunion 2010

Published on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 12:11 AM PDT

For the 6th time, Kern Valley High School Alumni from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s will meet for an all-school reunion at the Kernville Inn from Sept. 24 through 26. This event, which has been held every two years since 2000, draws a big crowd for all or part of the three-day event. More than 100 classmates from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and California are currently registered for the event, and registration forms are still coming in. The “oldest” alumni expected is from the Class of 1944. The Class of 1960 will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of their graduation, and Nina Bishop Sharp has something special planned for those attending from that year.

Activities will begin Friday afternoon as people check in at Reunion Headquarters at the Kernville Inn. Participants will get their name tags, and view pictures and memorabilia as they visit with old friends. A pot luck dinner will be held Friday evening on the grassy area of the Kernville Inn. On Saturday, there will be more reminiscing. A boxed lunch will be available for those who purchased one with their registration, and others can grab something to eat at one of the Kernville restaurants. Group pictures will be taken at 3:00 p.m. A catered dinner will be held at the Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, classmates will gather at Riverside Park to visit a little more before they say their good-byes and head for home. Saturday meal events had to be pre-paid, but all other activities are available to alumni even if they didn't register. Those who drop in are encouraged to sign in and provide contact information for future events.

Sometimes, people who still live in the Kern River Valley say they don't care about the reunion since they say they see these people all the time, but they don't think about the people who live out of town who are coming and may be anxious to see them. The registration deadline for meals and other events is Sept. 15, but others are encouraged to drop in during the event to say hello. For registration and other information, please email the Reunion Committee at kvhsalumni@aol.com or call 760-376-3218.
