This season Jacqueline Phillips will be coaching the Kern Valley junior varsity volleyball team for the first time.

The coach is excited about her first experience coaching volleyball and feels her team has a lot of talent and is looking for a profitable season.

“We have some great athletes who will work hard this season. Team work is the key this season. If we work together as a team, we will do well. I really want to build the volleyball program up and I think this team can make it happen,” said Phillips.

Returnees for the Lady Broncs are sophomores Jordan Andreas, Hayven Bevan, Ashley Burgo, Ina Erhardt, Brandi Medley and Bekah Borthick.

New this year are freshmen, Gillian Amos, Bobbie Mckim, Aubree Thompson, and Miko Tollefson.

Andreas said she likes the fact that her coach being new to coaching volleyball is listening to the returnees and open to taking their advice.

“We have a really good shot of doing well this season as long as the team pays attention and does not goof off,” Andreas said.

The first tournament for the junior varsity is on Saturday in Shafter. Their first home match of the season will take place Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. against Lone Pine.
