Marty Raymond accepts head coaching position in Europe: Raymond, 46, accepted a contract extension with the Condors on May 10, prior to this offer, making him the second-longest tenured coach in the ECHL. He now leaves as the all-time Condors leader in games coached, wins, points, playoff games and playoff wins. Raymond, who took over head coaching duties on Feb. 26, 2003, has led the team to 23 of the Condors 26 all-time playoff victories, and only seven coaches in league history have been to the post-season more than Raymond's seven times.
He led the Condors to their second straight Pacific Division title in 2010-11, and guided the club to 40 wins for the fourth time in his seven full seasons as head coach. He passed the 500-games milestone last season, while he also ranks 10th in ECHL history in games coached and 12th all-time in wins.
Condors 2011-2012 schedule annouced: The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, have announced their 2011-12 regular season schedule. The Condors will open the season on the road, and host their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The Condors schedule of 36 home and 36 road games also includes a brand-new member of the ECHL's Western Conference. The Colorado Eagles, formerly of the Central Hockey League, play at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo., just north of Denver. They will be a part of the Mountain Division and will be the Condors opponent for the home opener. The Eagles, who lost the CHL championship last week in Game 7, will come to Condorstown seven times this season.
The Condors most frequent opponent this season is the Stockton Thunder, whom they will play 13 times, plus twice during preseason action at Stockton on Oct. 7 and at home on Oct. 8. Stockton will also visit Bakersfield more than any other team, with eight games at Rabobank Arena.
March is the busiest month for the Condors, with 15 total games, and Saturday is the busiest night, with 13 home games. The Condors will not host a single Sunday game in 2011-12, but will play six road games on Sundays. The longest home stand of the season is six games, from Jan. 25 - Feb. 4, in which they will host four different teams. The longest road trip of the season is five games, made in December and again in March.
Bakersfield will open the regular season with just three home games in their first 11 contests, including visits to four different cities. But they will close the regular season with seven home games in their last 10. Other games of note include the annual Field Trip Day game on Nov. 15 vs. Stockton, and Teddy Bear Toss Night on Nov. 26 vs. Ontario.
"It's always exciting to have the new season's schedule in front of us," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "And this season is extra exciting getting to host the newest member of the ECHL on Opening Night. We've had groups calling in already, waiting for this schedule, so it's great to be able to get those folks the best seating and dates available."
